Our DNA
Ciudad Refugio Foundation is committed to the restoration of vulnerable and at-risk populations, providing emergency humanitarian assistance and comprehensive programming to people in need. We offer immediate and practical assistance to those who require it, a form of spiritual hospital, but with a long-term vision of integral development. We work to bring the gospel and well-being to single mothers, children at social risk, displaced families or victims of armed conflict, men and women in the process of restoring from all types of addictions, and people living on the streets.
Our Programs
Food Bank.
Our mission is to collect, sort, and distribute donated and purchased food, goods, and services to provide for those in need. We aim to deliver food, nutrition, and spiritual and social support to vulnerable communities.
Aguapanela outreach.
Every Wednesday night, a group of our volunteers distribute aguapanela and bread to people living on the streets in the Bronx, Medellín.
La academia.
"La Academia" is a project of the Ciudad Refugio Foundation, whose main objective is to make Jesus and His gospel known through the visual arts, music (instruments, choir, music initiation) and languages, taking advantage of the enjoyment that both children and adults have with these types of activities.
Men's Shelter.
Known on the streets as "Douglas' Place", Ciudad Refugio's homeless shelter provides safety and refuge at night for those living on the streets of Medellín.
Residential Restoration Program.
Ciudad Refugio offers a residential program that helps men and women break free from addiction and find freedom in Christ. Participants receive personalized mentoring, daily Bible studies, and life skills training.
Childrens feeding program.
Ciudad Refugio's feeding program provides over 150 Colombian and Venezuelan children with nutritious meals and educational activities each week.

Volunteer Exchange Program.
Serving in Ciudad Refugio as a volunteer has been one of the most beautiful things of my life. I am amazed by all the things I get to see and experience during my time here in Colombia. Every funny, surprising, astonishing, touching and heart breaking moment adds up to a year full of opportunities to serve, learn and grow.

Graduate of the Program.
I grew up in a home where I was the youngest of three children. I had a Christian mother and an alcoholic father who was not present for much of my childhood. For my part, I started drinking alcohol when I was 12, my mother did not like it, but my father allowed it. The frequency and quantity with which I drank alcohol increased and at 18, when I was held at gunpoint by my boss, I tried cocaine for the first time.

My professor had shared with me about the work of Ciudad Refugio but I believe it was God through him guiding me towards this place. I was working in a restaurant in Bello and I always found myself on breaks and after work sitting with homeless people or drug addicts sharing with them.
